Melito van Sardes , in the second century he put these words in the mouth of Christ : 

I am the Christ.

I am the one who destroyed death,

and triumphed over the enemy

and trampled Hades under foot,

and bound the strong one,

and carried off man to the heights of heaven,

I, He says, am the Christ…

I am your forgiveness,

I am the passover of your salvation,

I am the lamb which was sacrificed for you,

I am your ransom,

I am your light,

I am your saviour,

I am your resurrection,

I am your king,

I am leading you up to the heights of heaven,

I will show you the eternal Father,

I will raise you up by my right hand.

Melito, bisschop van Sardes, legde in de tweede eeuw deze woorden in de mond van Christus:

Ik ben de Christus.

Ik ben degene die de dood vernietigde,

en triomfeerde over de vijand

en vertrapte Hades onder de voeten,

en bond de sterke,

en voerde de mens weg naar de hoogten van de hemel,

Ik, zegt Hij, ben de Christus…

Ik ben uw vergeving,

Ik ben het Pascha van uw redding,

Ik ben het lam dat voor u geofferd werd,

Ik ben uw losprijs,

Ik ben je licht,

Ik ben je redder,

Ik ben uw opstanding,

Ik ben uw koning,

Ik leid je naar de hoogten van de hemel,

Ik zal u de eeuwige Vader tonen,

Ik zal u aan mijn rechterhand oprichten.
